FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT OUR EXCURSIONS

WHERE DO WE START?
Our guides will welcome you at the Safari House, located in the heart of Ruka’s pedestrian village (address: Rukankyläntie 13).

EQUIPMENT
We provide all necessary equipment according to the activity. In winter, this includes snowmobiling overalls, winter boots, gloves, and a hat or helmet. In summer, for example, whitewater rafting requires a rain suit, rubber boots, flotation vest, and helmet. We recommend wearing your own outdoor-appropriate clothing during activities. For hiking programs, we advise using sturdy footwear. Please don’t hesitate to ask us for more detailed clothing recommendations.

OPERATING MOTORIZED VEHICLES
Driving a snowmobile or other motorized vehicle under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited. All vehicles are registered for road use, and a valid driving license (minimum category T) is required. Routes include public roads and official snowmobile trails.

CHILDREN & PREGNANT PARTICIPANTS
Each activity description includes the minimum age requirement. Passengers on snowmobiles must be at least 140 cm tall, with feet reaching securely to the footrests. On the family whitewater route, the minimum age is 5 years. On the larger rapids, participants must be at least 18 years old and possess basic swimming skills.

We do not recommend river floating or husky/reindeer sled rides for pregnant participants. Pregnant individuals cannot take part in snowmobile or whitewater rafting programs, as the vibrations and exhaust fumes may pose a risk to the unborn child.

MEALS
Activity descriptions indicate which meals are included. Please inform us of any allergies or dietary requirements when booking, or at the latest one day before the activity.

ACTIVITY DIFFICULTY LEVELS
Each activity is assigned a difficulty level in the description. Easy-level programs are suitable for most participants and require no prior experience or special physical condition. Medium-level activities require a moderate level of fitness and/or driving skills. Regardless of the activity, it is essential to listen carefully to the guide’s instructions and be able to follow them accordingly.

DOWNHILL SWIM – Carried by the current in the heart of Oulanka National Park

Are you ready to challenge yourself and discover Kuusamo’s nature from a whole new angle? The Downhill Swim in the Oulanka River is an unforgettable experience where excitement, scenic beauty, and personal triumph come together – all under the expert supervision of a professional guide. For those who prefer a paddle over a plunge, part of the group can choose to canoe the route instead.

During the swim, you follow the natural current of the Oulanka River – essentially swimming “downhill.” The flow helps you move faster and makes the swim surprisingly easy. There are two route options: 12 km or 24 km.

The Downhill Swim is available for private groups of 4 to 12 people.
Prices: €209/person (12 km) | €259/person (24 km).
The package includes all equipment, guiding, and transportation.

Available June through August. The water gets warmer later in the summer, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Participants must have good swimming skills and moderate fitness. With a wetsuit and the river’s natural current, the swim is much lighter and faster than traditional open water swimming.

POHJANSEITA FOREST SPA – A UNIQUE SAUNA IN THE MIDDLE OF NATURE

Our crown jewel, Seita Forest Spa, is a fantastic visionary product of Jokke Kämäräinen, the father of Rukapalvelu. Three different saunas pamper the soul and body, respecting our ancient sauna tradition.

The traditional wood heated Finnish sauna with its high benches and loungers, is a familiar and safe start for taking a sauna. After finishing and preheating, it is time to jump into the smoke sauna to recharge from the gentle warmth of the masonry stone stove in the smell of smoke.

When taking a sauna, we recommend a little cooling off in the outdoor pool. The sounds of the forest and the sounds of sauna are also great to listen to on the spa terrace. After cooling off, it is worth diving into the steam sauna decorated with the ground stones from the Kuusamo rapids. Sometimes it is good to take care of liquid refueling, after which we recommend returning to the sauna that was nearest to your heart.

FINNISH SAUNA EXPERIENCE IN FOREST SPA

A thousand stories could be told about the Forest Spa and Seita and also great pictures can be shown, but the special nature and relaxing magical atmosphere of these places can only be forwarded through experience.

For sauna and dinner packages, it is possible to arrange pick-up and drop-off to your accommodation, as well as other programs and treatments.

Forest Spa Sauna always includes towels, togas, water as a sauna drink, as well as detergents and the services of a sauna host.

Wilderness Restaurant Kammi

Forest Dining, Smoke Sauna and Unforgettable Moments

Experience one of Finland’s most enchanting wilderness restaurants – hidden deep in the forests of Petäjävaara, on the peaceful shore of Lake Petäjälampi. Wilderness Restaurant Kammi is a unique setting for private dinners, events, parties, and seasonal celebrations, available all year round.

The main dining hall of Kammi, selected as the “Most Romantic Restaurant in the World” in 2010, is partly underground. Hundreds of tealights flicker against the bare bedrock wall, the fireplace glows, and the subtle scent of smoke fills the air – creating a warm and mystical atmosphere unlike anywhere else. Here, time slows down, and you can enjoy the moment without hurry.

Kammi is surrounded by wild nature – reindeer often wander nearby, birds sing all year round, and in winter, you might spot fresh wolf tracks in the snow. In late summer, berries grow wild just beyond the doorstep.

More Than a Restaurant – A Complete Wilderness Experience

Kammi is not just about dining – it’s a forest camp where nature, tradition, and comfort meet. The area features:

● A traditional Finnish smoke sauna, with water carried from the lake
● A spacious underground main dining hall, perfect for shared meals and stories
● A separate Pikku-Kammi building for smaller gatherings
● A large open-fire shelter (laavu) for campfire moments
● Rustic cabins for overnight stays – ideal for experience seekers
● A private lakeside for summer swims or winter ice dipping
● Eco-toilets and wood-heated facilities in a separate building

Tailored Wilderness Events – Year-Round

At Kammi, we host unforgettable weddings, festive dinners, wellness days, and group retreats all year round – often combined with saunas and playful outdoor activities.

Want to add more adventure to your evening? Combine your Kammi experience with optional activities like:

● Snowmobile safaris through the snowy forest
● Guided nature walks and wilderness skills workshops
● ATV tours and traditional campfire programs

Whether you arrive by van or snowmobile, Kammi offers a once-in-a-lifetime setting to enjoy good food, deep relaxation, and authentic Finnish atmosphere.
